A Guide to Healthy Weight Loss

In today’s world everyone seems to be concerned with health and beauty.  And weight loss is on a lot of people’s lips.  If you want to lose weight it’s important to appreciate that you have unhealthy as well as healthy weight loss options.

If you want to lose weight, keep it off, feel wonderful and look great you will want to choose a healthy weight loss routine.

The Basics

Healthy weight loss does not mean stopping eating altogether.  It means devising a healthy and adequate diet that includes all the essentials – grains, fruits, vegetables, calcium, proteins – and so on.

Never, ever go on a fast and stop eating or only start drinking liquids if you want to lose weight.
Initially you might lose several pounds and feel and look lighter.  The reality is you are losing muscle instead of fat.  You actually will end up with a higher percentage of body fat than you began with.

Since your body likes to change slowly in terms of exercise and food there are no shortcuts to healthy weight loss.  Drastic changes like infrequent bursts of exercise or sudden crash diets just don’t work in the long run.

If you think of weight loss as making permanent changes in eating and exercise habits rather than doing something for one or two weeks it will make a big difference in your life.  You can start by eating foods that are healthier for you.  Remember that little changes can make big differences.

People usually look at weight loss as a short term goal.  Instead try to see it as a healthy weight management system that you will incorporate into your life from this point on.

One of the best things you can do for healthy weight loss is to increase your level of activity.  Even if you eat the healthiest foods out there, if you don’t get some kind of exercise you aren’t going to be able to tone your body and get in shape.

Try different things – walking, bicycling, swimming, etc.  Find some kind of exercise you enjoy.  Then you will look forward to it and you won’t get bored or dread having to do it.

If you live near a park or the beach you could try walking, jogging or running there several times a week before going to work.  If you like more relaxing types of exercises you can try either Pilates or Yoga.  Both are very low pace, but they will help you sculpt and tone your body and lose weight too.

Take it from someone who doesn’t like exercise, there definitely is something out there that you will enjoy.  Why not start looking for it today?
